5ac Forest on the Water in Tay Valley (1hr from Ottawa, 1hr from Kingston)
Update: In June the beaver dam burst during heavy rain causing the water level to suddenly drop. I've been assured that the beavers will repair the dam and it should refill with water but we just don't know when that is. There are lots of lakes nearby for canoe/swimming and the 5ac forest is still a great place to camp and get some time away. Will update when the pond level returns to normal. Located in the south Ottawa Valley, this remote slice of wilderness is situated on a large pond that can be explored via canoe or kayak. With no neighbours, you can escape to the silence of the wilderness yet run to the beautiful village of Perth for supplies in just 20 minutes. Easily accessible road with just a short 5 minute hike into the waterfront campsite. No neighbours allow for that sweet escape you're seeking but strong cell signal allows you to stay connected to the real world when required. Located 1hr from Ottawa, 1hr from Kingston, 20 minutes to the beautiful summer town of Westport and the Rideau canal. There is only one campsites on the property so you have this slice of wilderness all to yourself. There are two flat ground spots roughly 20 meters apart so if staying with friends you can pitch beside each other or have some space apart if desired. I haven't had a chance to setup my kayak there yet however you're welcome to bring your own canoe and kayak in, there is a 5 minute portage to get it into the campsite/water. You're welcome to hang out and explore the property or there are tons of nearby attractions you can enjoy, see http://lanarkcountytourism.com/ for more info!

About the host
As a busy young professional, I enjoy being able to disappear into the wilderness to clear my head. I like spots that have space to roam and explore, are quiet and disconnected from the world yet close to amenities.
