We just came home from a magical 4 day/3 night stay at Santo's property. He was the most generous host providing us with access to running water and loads and loads of firewood. The campsite is in a beautiful remote spot, with a clearing and a nice pine forest all around. There is a nice long path to walk through the woods and fields nearby, where deer can be spotted in the early mornings and at dusk at times. The silence and privacy of camping here was only ever interrupted by birdsong in the day, crow songs in the mornings, coyotes howling and owls calling at night. The best part is that the location is ideal for all kinds of activities within a 15 minute driving distance. There is the amazing Saugeen river for fishing, boating, swimming as close as 5 min by car; Lake Huron has several gorgeous beaches to offer - 15 min drive; Port Elgin and Southampton are charming little towns with shopping, restaurants and great coffee; Tons and tons of hiking possibilities all around, starting with the MacGregor Point Park trails as well as the Saugeen Rail Trail (the rail trail is great for biking, too!) Finally, lake Arran is also just a 15-20 min drive depending where you gain access. Fantastic spot for all kinds of outdoor adventures! We are definitely going to return to this camping spot!
